The Redemption of Randon Keeg
The Undead Imperial Noble

by Chris Bradley

Not all undead creatures are evil by nature or by choice. Sometimes a warrior or hero is killed in combat while venturing in the lands of the dead. If the warrior has a strong enough will and enough knowledge in the areas of supernatural and magical power they can control their actions to a limited degree. You see, most undead creatures are controlled by an external force such as a necromancer, exceptions to this rule are creatures with magical powers of their own.

In this adventure the warriors are involved with just such a creature. Randon Keeg, an imperial noble was killed while returing from a quest near the deserted city of Numas. He now lives in the form of a Liche, with all his magical powers focused on maintaining his control over the evil forces within him thus he cannot use magic of any form. His good nature also forbids him from taking advantage of any undead magical armor or weapons.

Randon Keeg met the warriors near the intersection of the Ash and Great Mortis Rivers. Just before the warriors attacked Randon spoke in a loud and unnatural voice asking the warriors to hear him out. He speaks of his plight and then offers the warriors 1D6 x 100 gold to aid him in returning to the shrine of the ages, the one place where his soul can be put to rest.

During the power phase of every turn roll 1D6, on a roll of 4 or greater the turn goes on as normal, on a roll of 1,2, or 3, the evil forces of the damned take over Randon's body, attacking the warriors during the monsters phase like a normal liche. The warriors may not simply kill Randon though as the sudden lack of conflict within him would combine the good and evil within his body and the resulting explosion would collapse the room. This happens if Randon is killed in any way during the quest and the warriors must add 1D6 to their initiative, a roll of 8 or greater will see that warrior escaping from the room.

Note that Randon may not be healed in any way, shape or form and that all monsters will attack him if possible. If Randon is returned to the shrine of the ages (the Dread King's Throne Room) the warriors all receive their 1D6 x 100 gold, 1 treasure card, and 1 added to their starting wounds permanently as Randon's remaining life force is distributed between them.
